“Color of spring” — a river between wooded slopes, pink blossoming branches over the water and swallows skimming low across it.

What the picture shows

Branches heavy with pink and white blossom spread across the right and lower part of the canvas, leaning over the water and repeating in its reflection. A tall tree with a dense dark green crown grows at the left. Behind lie hills covered in young greenery of many shades, grey rocky outcrops and a light haze. The river is calm, greenish-silver, marked with horizontal glints, and a few swallows fly above it. Coverage is partial: beads fill the blossom, the crown of the left-hand tree, the reflections and the bands of glint on the water, while the slopes, the rocks and the distance stay painted on the canvas — and it is they that give the landscape its depth. The beaded bands on the water run horizontally, so the current reads even from across the room.
