Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "Cobalt"

“Cobalt” — a festive still life with a blue-and-gold decanter, a goblet and branches of lilac.

What the picture shows

At the centre stands a tall cobalt decanter with a shaped stopper and dense gold ornament, set on a round tray laid out in golden spirals. Beside it are a stemmed goblet, a white cup with a curved handle and a glass vase holding lilac branches — mauve, pink and white heads with large green leaves. A dish of small berries sits to the right. The background is painted in a batik manner, in turquoise, mint and violet washes. Coverage is partial and linear: beads trace the gold ornament, the lilac heads, the outlines of the vessels and the veins of the leaves, while the blurred colour washes stay printed. The composition is built vertically: the decanter sets the axis, the lilac spreads up and outwards from it, and the tray with the china anchors the bottom.
