Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "Butterfly dance"

“Butterfly dance” — a flurry of butterflies circles above cosmos flowers in pale blue air.

What the picture shows

There are about a dozen of them, all different: orange-russet speckled with black, blue, green edged with yellow, lemon, turquoise and soft pink. They scatter on a diagonal from bottom to top, their wings half transparent, with fine antennae and long tails. Along the bottom runs a band of flowers — pink, lilac, white and blue cosmos with yellow centres and finely cut leaves. The background is an even, cloudless blue sky, so nothing distracts from the movement. Coverage is partial: beads are laid in dots and short rows over the wings and petals to pick out the patterning, while the sky and part of the foliage stay printed. The butterflies vary in size: those higher up are smaller and paler, which gives the impression of the flock receding into the depth of the sky. The fourteen colours are distributed so that each wing gets its own combination.
