Description

“Under the umbrella” shows a striped lounger and a beach umbrella on yellow sand, with coloured rings floating in the air above them.

What the picture shows

A white-and-blue umbrella opens at the upper right on a golden pole, with a folding lounger in burgundy and white stripes beneath it. The beach is marked with a dense scatter of gold and white beads, and clear droplets show in the blue water. The sky is dotted with rings of pink, white and pale blue beads that read as soap bubbles. The sea, the sky and the horizon line stay printed on the canvas: the beads cover only the objects and highlights. The whole composition moves on a diagonal from the sand up to the umbrella, while the coloured rings in the sky echo that rhythm and add lightness.
