Description

In “Sydney” the white sails of the opera house stand on a headland with a lilac city rising behind them.

What the picture shows

The curved shells of the theatre are outlined in white pearl beads, the roof beneath them is set in dark green and emerald, and the edge of the quay is drawn in yellow-gold. Behind runs a printed skyline of towers, with only a few buildings picked out in beads — lilac, pink and blue; at the top right a sun of yellow beads with a pearl centre glows, and golden dots are scattered across the violet sky. On the shore at the left, trees are filled with dark green beads in rounded clumps. The bay below is printed blue, with small squares of pale blue and turquoise beads laid over it to mark the glints on the water. The canvas is not covered solidly, and the city stays a drawing.
