Description

“Sunrise messenger” shows a black cockerel among flowers, treated in the manner of folk painting.

What the picture shows

The bird's body and neck are laid in rows of glossy black beads, the wing is marked with white ones, and the comb and wattle with red. The tail spreads into a fan of long green strokes with translucent blue beads woven between them. Flowers are scattered around: red ones with yellow centres, a yellow one with a white core, white daisies; the leaves are run in green beads in long curved lines. The inner field is cream, with fine painted brushwork, and is left unbeaded. The rectangle is edged with a border of alternating white and blue beads, and beyond it a blue patterned ground shows. The beading works here as painting laid over the canvas, not as solid filling.
