Description

“Retro Car – 2” shows a pale blue convertible against an old road, as if shot on faded film.

What the picture shows

The body is beaded in pale blue and blue, the sills and chrome in white and silver, and the top of the cabin marked in yellow. The wheels are black with light spokes, and two golden headlamps sit at the front. The sepia printed landscape with its road and slope is left entirely unbeaded, and that is exactly why the car steps forward like a colour inset on an old photograph. On art canvas the beads go in patches, so the contrast is intentional. The contrast of cool blue with warm sepia is the main device here. Most of the beads go into the body, while the chrome strips call for care, being thin and long. The spoked wheels are worked last and give the car its weight.
