Description

“Peach” shows a jar of peach jam with a cut fruit beside it, in a warm yellow-orange range.

What the picture shows

The top of the jar is covered with cloth beaded in pink, white and terracotta, with a scalloped trim along the edge and a yellow flower patch at the side. The glass of the jar stays a yellow print without beads, so the contents look translucent. Below lie peach halves outlined in orange beads with a pale centre, and two green leaves of elongated beads. The yellow gradient background is left unbeaded — on art canvas the beads go only onto the objects. The composition works on two scales: a large jar above and small fruit below. The pink and terracotta of the cloth echo the orange of the peaches, so the piece looks whole. Plenty of background is left free, and deliberately so.
