Description

“Payful captain” shows a smiling dolphin in a white peaked cap with an anchor, leaping out of the water beside a small palm island. The mood is summery and almost cartoonish.

What the picture shows

The dolphin holds the centre: a grey-blue body, a white cap with a gold anchor badge, a necklace of red and white beads. On the right stands a green palm with a heavy cluster of golden fruit, and below it a strip of sand with a starfish and tiny red flowers. The sea, the clouded sky and the dolphin's body stay printed on the canvas — on art canvas the beads do not cover the surface completely. Beads pick out the cap, the necklace, the palm leaves, the island and small highlights on the water.
