Description

“Owl – 8” shows a brown owl in a purple cap sitting on a leafy branch.

What the picture shows

The cap and the tie are worked in purple beads, the body in brown, beige and gold, with the wing marked by a pale arc. The eyes are narrowed and the beak is dark. The branch under its feet is set in brown beads, with green leaves of light green beads growing to the right. The white ground stays printed and is not filled in: on art canvas the beads do not cover the surface, so the owl's silhouette reads very clearly. The purple works here as the single cool accent in an otherwise warm brown range. The leafy branch draws the eye into the lower right corner and balances the large head — without it the composition would tip to one side. The wing is marked by a single pale arc.
