Description

“Owl – 6” shows a fluffy ginger owl in a big red scarf on a winter branch.

What the picture shows

The scarf takes up almost a third of the piece: red beads laid in dense horizontal rows, the ends hanging down. The head and breast are worked in brown, cream and golden beads, the eyes large and dark under dark brows. The claws grip a branch covered in white snow and icicles of white beads. The blue ground with its printed snowflakes is supplemented with beaded ones: on art canvas the beads do not cover the surface. This piece uses 493 beads — the most of any owl in the series — and nearly half of them go into the scarf. The breast feathers are beaded in arcs that follow the shape of the body, and that is what makes the owl look fluffy rather than flat.
