Description

“Owl – 4” shows a white-and-blue owl on a branch beside a pink tulip.

What the picture shows

The body is worked in white and pearl beads, the wings and brows outlined in blue, with a golden patch on the breast. The eyes are large with yellow centres. The branch under its feet is set in brown beads with green leaves growing from it, and a pink tulip of pink and crimson beads opens on the left. The pale blue ground with its greenish lower half stays printed: on art canvas the beads do not cover the surface. The blue outline over white is the main device here: it holds the shape even though there are few beads on the body itself. The tulip is the only bright detail and is beaded at the end so as not to soil the pale body. The yellow centres of the eyes are set one bead at a time.
