“Owl – 3” shows two grey owls pressed close together on a branch.

What the picture shows

The plumage is worked in grey, brown and beige beads in short rows, the beaks dark, the eyes large and ringed with pale beads. The branch beneath them is set in brown beads with green leaves hanging from it. A round white moon glows behind, outlined by a line of matt beads. The dark blue night field stays printed, scattered with yellow flowers: on art canvas the beads are not solid. The two figures merge into one shape, so keeping the shades of grey distinct matters — they are what separates the owls. The moon behind is beaded first: it sets the pale patch on which both figures are then built. The green leaves on the branch and the yellow flowers across the field go in last, once the owls are done.
