Description

“Oriental pattern - 1” shows a round mandala with a square inside it on a bright green ground.

What the picture shows

The design is built in layers: an outer circle of red and blue beads, then a band of golden beads, then a rotated square outlined in light blue, and at the very centre a rosette of yellow beads inside a red ring. The corners of the square are marked with blue triangles. The green field with its printed rays is left as it is: on art canvas the beads do not cover the surface. The piece is symmetrical, so it is convenient to bead in circles — from the centre outwards, checking against the opposite side. The golden band between the circle and the square is the most visible line in the piece: it separates the layers and keeps the pattern from merging into one mass.
