Description

“Marines” shows a green octopus in a sailor's cap holding a small yacht and a red signal flag in its tentacles.

What the picture shows

The octopus fills the centre: its head outlined in green beads, a white cap with a blue ribbon built from beads, and a sailor's collar in blue and white. One tentacle lifts a red-and-white boat with a sail, another holds a flag on a staff. The lower tentacles are wound with green, golden and white beads. The sea below is made of blue waves with white beaded crests, and printed gulls fly above. The smiling face, the sail and the sky itself stay printed on the canvas. The tentacles are stitched in long curved rows and give the piece its movement. The waves below are built from short runs of white beads, so the sea looks lively even at this size.
