Description

“Isabella” shows a jug, two glasses of rosé wine and a bunch of dark grapes against a pale green ground.

What the picture shows

The jug is laid in golden-bronze beads that convey the glazed side of the vessel well. The glasses are outlined in clear and white beads, and the wine in them is pink, in several shades. At the upper left, vine leaves of green beads hang with a dark purple bunch on a tendril, each grape marked by a single bead. The pale green background with its printed vine stays open: on art canvas the beading never covers the whole surface. This is the most grown-up subject among the fruit magnets in the batch — a small still life rather than a picture. The golden jug stands at the centre and takes the most beads, while the glasses at the left are kept pale and translucent so as not to pull focus. The grapes above close the composition.
