“Hearts” shows two toddlers sitting among heart-shaped balloons on a pink ground.

What the picture shows

A fair-haired girl and a boy in a blue cap sit close together, their collars and the cap worked in yellow, white and blue beads. Two heart balloons float above them: one fully covered in red beads, the other in white beads over a printed red field. Outlined hearts in pink, white and red hang around them, and toys lie below — a striped ball, a blue scoop and a yellow arc. The children's faces stay printed, as does the pink background with its faint printed circles. The balloons are the most striking part: one is filled solid, the other only dotted with beads over the print, and that contrast reads well up close. The small hearts around the edges are left until last.
