“Hay-harvest” shows a white goat in a yellow-and-red dress carrying an armful of grass and flowers on her back.

What the picture shows

The figure stands in profile: the yellow skirt is worked in golden beads with red specks, a row of red beads runs along the hem, and the collar and sleeves are pale. The horns and hooves are brown. An armful of green grass lies on her back with white daisies and red flowers showing through it. A wooden fence of brown beads stands behind, and a green meadow with red flowers runs below. The sky with its clouds stays printed: on art canvas the beads do not cover the surface. The dress is the densest passage, while the grass and flowers go in small clusters, so the picture changes visibly within the first hour. The colours here are warm and saturated while the ground is pale, and it is that contrast which makes the small figure stand out.
