Description

“Happy New Year – 6” shows two mice in red outfits and white caps looking out of a Christmas wreath.

What the picture shows

The pair stand hugging in the centre, their caps trimmed with white and pale blue beads. The wreath around them is built from green beads in two shades, with red flowers with white centres, pink and purple clusters, and a golden bow at the bottom. The background is blue: some snowflakes are stitched in white and pale blue beads while the rest stay printed. The faces, hands and costumes are printed too — the beads outline the shapes and carry the wreath, which is what gives the piece its relief. The wreath is stitched first, since it sets the limits of the composition, then come the flowers and the bow. The small snowflakes on the blue ground are best left until last. Seven colours come with the kit and nearly all of them work in the wreath.
