Description

“Happy New Year – 3” shows a golden bear in a woolly cap dragging a parcel tied with a red ribbon.

What the picture shows

The bear is seen in profile with its head down. The cap is lilac-pink with a white fur trim and a curly green pompom, and a scarf of pink and white beads is wound round its neck. On the left there is a lilac parcel tied with a big bow of glossy red beads. The background is pale blue with frost at the edges, and the snowflakes are built from transparent and light blue beads. The bear's warm ochre body stays printed on the canvas — the beads take the cap, the scarf, the bow and the snow, as they are meant to on art canvas. The colours are warm and muted apart from the bow, which pulls all the attention. There are few shades, so mixing up the beads is almost impossible, and the cap and scarf are stitched in rows along the outline.
