Description

“Glass of wine” shows a glass of red wine between a pale green and a dark purple bunch of grapes.

What the picture shows

The bowl of the glass is filled with red beads, the rim outlined in white, and the slender stem laid in clear beads so that it looks almost like glass. A pale green bunch of yellowish beads and a large vine leaf hang at the left, while dark purple grapes lie at the lower right. The beige background with its printed golden vine pattern is left unbeaded: on art canvas the print does that work and the embroidery adds relief. The most interesting part here is the clear stem of the glass: pale beads lie in a single row along the printed line and create the sense of glass. The red bowl, by contrast, fills densely and quickly. The green and purple bunches balance the composition on both sides.
