Description

“Easter still-life – 1” shows a paska with a candle and five dyed eggs against a yellow ground.

What the picture shows

The cake stands in the centre: white icing in white beads running down its sides in uneven drips, a row of mixed-colour beads on top like sprinkles, and a thin candle of orange beads rising from the middle. In front lie the eggs — lilac, red, orange, green and blue, each densely beaded. The letters “ХВ” are worked in blue beads in the upper corners. The background stays printed: a patterned yellow cloth and a grey-blue table top. The icing is stitched first: its uneven lower edge in white beads sets the shape of the whole cake. The eggs are filled solid, each in its own colour, and they give the piece its weight. The letters “ХВ” are the easiest part, a few beads per stroke.
