Description

“Easter basket – 1” shows a basket of dyed eggs and flowers on a lilac-blue ground.

What the picture shows

The woven basket is built from bands of golden and amber beads, and the handle is worked the same way. Inside lie eggs with a printed pattern, with pink and yellow flowers with white centres and green leaves in small beads between them. The letters “ХВ” are stitched in blue in the upper corners. The background is a soft shift from blue to pink and stays printed; the beads carry the basket, the flowers and the edges of the eggs, which is what gives the piece its relief. The weave of the basket is imitated by rows of beads alternating in two shades — a simple trick that reads convincingly. The flowers are made in clusters and the leaves in short runs of green beads, while the eggs themselves stay printed.
