What the picture shows

A cheese crescent runs around the edge of the circle in yellow, orange and golden beads with clearly marked holes. The white mouse lies on it with its paws tucked in, one pink ear and a long tail showing; a red, green and white checked blanket in rows of tiny beads covers it. A red cap with a green tassel hangs on the right. The background is a blue sky with printed stars — it is not beaded and stays as printed on the canvas. The blanket is the finest part of the work: the check is picked up bead by bead, alternating three colours. The holes in the cheese stay printed and are not beaded.

The deep yellow cheese contrasts with the cool blue ground, so the magnet is visible from the far side of a kitchen. The mood is wintry, but the subject works all year.
