Description

“Beer” shows a mug of beer with thick white foam, with barley ears and green hop cones beside it.

What the picture shows

The mug is laid in golden beads in even horizontal rows, the foam above is white and pearly, and the handle is outlined in pale beads. Yellow barley ears of elongated beads rise at the left, and green hop cones with leaves lie below. The white background with its yellow splashes of print takes no beads. At the lower right the word Beer is printed on the canvas — it also stays printed and does not need to be embroidered. Gold and white carry the whole piece: the foam is light, the mug warm, and the green hops add the only cool accent. The areas are large with no fine turns, so the beads lie in even rows. The yellow splashes of print on the white ground suggest movement, though they need no stitching.
