Description

“Bear and Forget-me-not” shows a panda holding a basket of blue forget-me-nots.

What the picture shows

The basket is worked in bronze and brown beads in a weave pattern, with clusters of blue forget-me-nots and pink flowers showing out of it. The panda is marked by a black outline, its ears and paws set in black and its body left white. A printed band of flowers runs across the top — pastel peonies and leaves left as watercolour. Mint-green sprigs are beaded below. The white ground stays printed: on art canvas the beads are not solid. This piece uses the fewest beads in the batch — 296 — which makes it a good first attempt. The basket weave is the most technical passage: the beads are set in a chequered order, which makes the basket look genuinely woven. The forget-me-nots go quickly after it.
