Description

“Bear and flowers” shows a panda sitting among large flowers in a pastel range.

What the picture shows

The largest flower, to the right of the panda, is worked in crimson beads with a dark brown centre; a second is set in beige and peach beads, and a third below is built from pink petals. The panda is black and white: its outlines, ears and paws run in black beads while the body stays pale. Pastel flowers are scattered across the printed ground and left as watercolour: on art canvas the beads do not cover the surface. It is mostly the flowers that get beaded rather than the animal, so the piece reads more like a botanical study with a character in it. The flower centres are worked in dark beads: they act as accent dots and keep the pastel range from going soft. The panda itself is the quietest part of the piece — almost no beads there beyond the outlines.
