Bead Embroidery Bookmark Kit "Precepts about life"

“Precepts about life” is a two-sided bookmark with an image of the Saviour and a passage from the Sermon on the Mount. Its mood is restrained, closer to a prayer book than to a decoration.

What the picture shows

The front opens with an arched medallion holding an icon of Jesus Christ marked IC XC: a blue tunic, a red cloak, an open book in his hand and a gold halo behind. Below, on a cream field, runs a passage from the seventh chapter of the Gospel of Matthew about not judging your neighbour. The reverse carries a saying of St Gregory of Nyssa, with a beaded crown set with blue and green above it. Both sides are closed by a gold-and-bronze border, with a floral rosette at the foot and a cord loop at the top. The palette is short: ochre, bronze and dots of blue and green. The beads fill the frame, the crown, the rosettes and the small accents, while the face and the lines of text stay as printing on the canvas.
