Cross stitch rushnyk kits come on solid 16 count fabric, cut to size with finished edges. Formats: the classic 1000×330 mm towel, a shorter 950×330 mm version and a 330×2200 mm table runner. Difficulty is above medium and the palettes range from 2 to 44 colours.

Why solid fabric

Rushnyky used to come as bases with insert panels, and stitching was confined to the window. Solid fabric removes that limit: the design can go anywhere, almost any chart fits, and you make the fringe yourself by pulling threads along the edge to the depth you prefer.

What is included

The 16 count fabric base, DMC floss with a surplus for full coverage, a needle, a printed colour chart and QR codes to the digital formats.

Questions and answers

How long does a rushnyk take?

60–120 hours. Kits with palettes of 31–44 colours sit at the upper end.

Are grid lines needed?

Yes. Over a metre of fabric, a 10×10 grid in contrasting thread saves the design from drifting.

How does 16 count differ from 14?

The stitch is smaller and the design crisper, but the eyes tire faster, so a side lamp helps.

How do I care for it?

Hand wash, dry flat, press from the back through a cloth.
