Description

“Stellar Gaze” is a decorative cat sitting against a large turquoise moon, its silhouette covered with circles, rosettes and dots, as if the night sky had been painted straight onto its fur.

What the picture shows

The cat is shown in profile, deep blue, with a straight back, a raised tail tip and long pale whiskers. Orange, yellow, pink and turquoise discs are scattered across its body — from tiny dots to large rayed mandalas, each with its own pattern. Behind it glows a full moon the colour of sea water, and below rise the violet and lilac outlines of city houses and towers. The whole background is sprinkled with small stars. Beads sit on the cat, the moon and the ornaments, while the night city stays mostly as print, so the beaded areas glow against the matte canvas like stained glass. The drawing is deliberately flat, with no modelling, so the piece reads more like a stained-glass panel than a painting.
