Description

“Defender of Fate” shows an angel in profile holding a tiny star in her palms. Behind her rise a golden solar disc and long fiery wings, while her gown falls away as a deep blue starry stream.

What the picture shows

The picture is built on two elements meeting — the warm solar one and the cool nocturnal one. On the left a disc of yellow and gold beads opens out, its rays reaching the very edge of the canvas. The hair is stitched in long wavy strands of chestnut, copper and russet, and it passes almost imperceptibly into the feathers of the wings, from deep brown to honey and near white. The gown is dark blue, scattered with fine gold dots like a night sky, and towards the bottom it breaks into separate currents running down to the lower edge. The background is muted grey-blue and turquoise wash, with rounded navy elements in the upper right corner. The brightest point of the whole picture is the little star in her hands.
