Description

“Lighthouse Above the Waves” shows a red and white lighthouse on a rocky islet in the middle of a restless sea, with gulls in the sky and the keeper's house at the foot of the tower. The mood is windy and bright, the way a coast feels after a storm.

What the picture shows

The sea is stitched in dense wavy rows of blue, ultramarine and turquoise beads with white along the crests, so you can clearly see the water breaking against the rocks. The islet is gathered from warm brown and ochre shades and carries a small house with an orange roof and pale walls. The lighthouse tower is striped red and white, with a glazed lantern at the top. The sky is light: blue turns into a creamy peach glow near the horizon, and the clouds are laid in white and beige beads with small gaps between them. Gulls are scattered above the water, each one suggested with only a few stitches. Part of the sky and the rocks stays as print on the canvas, which pushes the beaded waves forward.
