Description

“Lord of the Skies” shows a bald eagle in flight straight in front of a large moon, in an eastern style with stylised pines and curling clouds.

What the picture shows

The bird spreads its wings across almost the full width of the canvas: the head and tail are white, the body and flight feathers dark brown and black, the beak and legs yellow, the talons drawn in. Every wing feather is outlined separately, so the wingspan looks heavy and real. Behind it glows a round moon in muted pink-copper, with thin threads of beads running down from its lower edge. Stylised pines with flat tiers of needles rise from below and at the sides, and decorative clouds curl in the corners. The background is dark, almost black, and stays as print on the canvas — which is exactly why the beaded areas glow like a Japanese woodblock print. Threads of beads hanging from the moon and from the branches add texture and a hint of movement.
