Description

“Power talisman” is a winged sword on a dark ground: a heavy blade with carved ornament, a hilt from which two open wings spread, and a dark stone at the centre of the crossguard.

What the picture shows

The whole shape is worked in warm gold, bronze and copper beads in several shades, so the metal looks old and forged rather than polished. The feathers are laid in long rows, each one outlined with a darker contour and finished with a pale tip. A woven, Celtic-looking pattern runs down the blade, and the grip is bound with a cord. A round dark inset sits in a raised mount at the centre of the crossguard. The canvas is an even dark graphite, with single gold beads scattered freely across it like sparks struck from steel. There is almost no printed image here: the picture rests entirely on the beads and the decorative stones. The composition is strictly symmetrical: a single vertical down the middle and mirrored wings on either side.
