Description

“Legend awakened” shows the head of a dark dragon rising out of smoke: a long muzzle, a crest of sharp horns and two burning eyes glowing through the ashen haze.

What the picture shows

The scales are worked in cold blue-grey and anthracite shades with a metallic sheen, and the creature's neck curves downwards through the whole height of the canvas, so the eye travels from top to bottom. Horns and spikes radiate around the head, and thin whiskers hang below the jaw. The eyes are the only truly warm note: amber orange ringed with black. The background is ochre and sand, streaked with smoke and soot, and across it sit rows of round medallions with runic patterns, like old seals. Beads cover the dragon itself and the trails of smoke, while the ochre background with its medallions stays as print — which is why the silhouette reads instantly from across the room. The spikes and the trailing smoke give the picture movement even in a static pose.
