Description

“Dream of the air” shows five fluffy dandelion clocks on thin stems, caught a moment before the wind takes the seeds away. It is a quiet piece about fragility.

What the picture shows

The dandelions are stitched in pale beads — cream and white, with copper and gold sparks near the centres and green veins along the rays. Every seed umbrella is worked with separate stitches radiating from the middle, so the spheres come out airy and translucent rather than solid patches. The stems are dark copper, long and curved, and lower down there are leaves and small half-open buds. The background is split diagonally: deep turquoise above, warm graphite grey below, with stray seeds and bubbles of light drifting across it. That background stays as print on the canvas — the beadwork sits only on the flowers, stems and leaves. Seeds that have already broken away are scattered across the whole field of the picture and carry the upward movement.
