Description

“The King of Beasts” is a lion's head in profile assembled out of tongues of flame: the mane is not merely full, it spreads in fiery curls and turns into geometric ornament.

What the picture shows

The drawing is kept to a warm monochrome range — from pale sand and gold to copper, terracotta and deep brown. The lion's face is calm, the gaze directed to the side; the nose, whiskers and beard are outlined in lighter beads and the ear just shows through the mane. The mane itself is built from long pointed strands curling outwards like fire in the wind, with stylised leaves woven among them. Thin circles and straight lines of tiny beads are drawn around the head, and a symmetrical pendant of diamonds and droplets hangs below. The background is black and stays as bare canvas: the whole image rests on the beads, so the figure looks lit from within.
