Description

“Book of Dreams” shows an open volume from which light rises in a whirl and flies towards a golden moon above a night city — a fairy-tale subject about reading before sleep.

What the picture shows

A heavy book lies at the bottom, with gilded pages, fine text and a thick copper-brown block of leaves sewn in several layers. A stream of light bursts from the pages and twists into a wide spiral, worked in white, pale blue and turquoise beads with gold sparks along its edges; thin curls branch off it and stars scatter outwards. A crescent moon in warm gold hangs above, surrounded by small constellations joined by lines. The background is a deep blue night sky with the silhouettes of tall towers, roofs and spires and a few lit windows. Beads cover the book, the whirl, the moon and the stars, while the city and the sky stay mostly as print, so the light really does read as the one bright thing in the picture.
