Description

“Valley of Dreams” shows a flowering meadow in front of blue mountains at dawn: lupin spires, white daisies and small yellow blooms filling the whole foreground.

What the picture shows

The lower two thirds of the canvas belong to the flowers. Lupins stand as vertical candles in violet, lilac, crimson and blue; between them open large daisies with domed yellow centres, yellow clusters and occasional pink blooms, with dark grass showing at the very bottom. Beyond runs a band of green scrub and a sandy slope, and behind it a ridge of blue-lilac mountains with snowy crests. The sky is peach and pink, layered with long lilac clouds lit warmly from below. Beads cover the flowers, the clouds and the mountain ridges, while the slope and the grass stay as print, which makes the meadow read as denser and deeper than a fully beaded field would. The strokes are small and closely packed, so there really are many flowers rather than a few separate patches.
