Description

“Colorful Parrot” shows a large macaw spreading its wings on a thick branch deep in a tropical forest, in the warm golden light that filters through the canopy.

What the picture shows

One wing is blue and turquoise with a dark edge, the other yellow-green shading into amber; the breast and nape are orange-yellow, the heavy beak is black, and the long tail falls in stripes of blue, green and gold. Around the eye there is a patch of pale skin with fine dark speckles. The bird grips a grey branch overgrown with moss and lichen. The background is a blur of jungle trunks and crowns in honey and ochre tones with sunlight breaking through. Beads cover the feathers, the branch and a few individual leaves, while the tropical backdrop stays as print, so the parrot steps forward as if cut out of warm light. The wings open almost symmetrically, so the whole composition holds on the diagonal from the beak to the tip of the tail.
