Description

“Frost patterns” is a large snowflake filling almost the whole square canvas, with four smaller ones in the corners. The piece is cold in colour and built on symmetry.

What the picture shows

The rays run out from the centre in six directions, each worked in several layers: dense areas of pale blue and blue beads, light pearly lines, silver scrolls. A faceted crystal sits at the centre, and glass stones of several shapes (rondelles, drops, leaves and a hemisphere) are set along the rays, giving real sparkle that stands clearly apart from the matte beads. The Preciosa No. 6 beads are larger than the main beads and act as separate accents. The pale blue background with white washes stays as print on the canvas, so the snowflake reads as if it had frozen onto glass. The four small snowflakes in the corners repeat the structure of the large one in simplified form and tie it to the edges of the canvas.
