Description

“Cosmic Traveler” is an astronaut floating weightless among planets, shown full length. The piece is light in tone: the suit takes up most of the canvas and holds the composition together.

What the picture shows

The suit is worked in cream, beige and grey-blue beads, with visible folds, straps and coloured control panels on the chest in red, blue and orange. The helmet is mirrored, with gold glass reflecting the light. Behind the astronaut a galaxy spirals out in concentric rings of blue, turquoise and violet, laid in rows of beads that follow the curve. Planets are scattered around — a large terracotta one with a ring at the bottom, smaller blue and orange spheres, and an orange ring crossing the whole lower part. The pale grey background stays as print; the microbeads add small stars and highlights on the helmet glass. Transverse seams and the rings of the suit show on the sleeve and the leg, worked in darker beads, while the gloves are lighter than the suit itself.
