Description

“Radiance of Life” is a tree of life laid out in gold beads on a deep blue ground. The piece is symbolic and very simple in colour: essentially gold on blue.

What the picture shows

The trunk and crown branch out into fine limbs carrying separate leaves; above the crown a wide gold arc curves like a crescent or a halo. The roots run down and spread into a symmetrical fan that closes into a circle, and inside that circle is a geometric pattern of overlapping rings, a grid close to the flower of life. Crown and roots together form an almost exact vertical symmetry. Small gold sparks and single leaves are scattered across the blue field. The background stays as print — even, dark blue, with the faint texture of the canvas showing — so the gold beads act as the only source of light. Crown and roots are worked in several shades of gold, from near copper to pale lemon, and that is what keeps the tree from looking flat.
