Description

“The essence of femininity” is a stylised female figure assembled from large flowing shapes. It reads as a sign of movement rather than a portrait: there is no face and no small detail, only the line of the body.

What the picture shows

The figure sits leaning on one arm, head tipped back, legs stretched forward. It is built from rounded segments in a warm range — red, terracotta, orange, yellow and ochre — with occasional cool turquoise and blue-green inserts flashing between them. Each segment is worked in its own shade and outlined in a darker tone, so the figure reads like mosaic or stained glass. The background is flat dark grey with no detail at all; it stays as print on the artist canvas and lets the figure come forward. Beads cover only the figure itself, and that gives it a noticeable relief. A small turquoise arc repeats three times — on the shoulder, on the hip and near the foot — and it is this that sets the rhythm of the whole figure.
