Description

“When the Soul Blooms” shows a white swan on dark water beneath a large gold disc, with a flowering branch above it. The piece is tall and narrow and built on three colours: white, gold and grey.

What the picture shows

The swan is worked in white and pearl beads with grey shadows, the wing feathers laid in separate rows so they read as individual plumes. The beak is orange with a black base. Behind it is a large gold circle, sun or full moon, filled solidly with golden beads and radiating fine rays. A dark branch crosses it, hung with small white and gold blossoms. Below, the water is dark grey with long silver reflections, and gold water-lily leaves run along the bottom edge. The background stays as print, and the gold and white glow all the more strongly on it; the microbeads work in the blossom and the reflections. The reflection under the swan is worked in short horizontal strokes, so the water looks as if it is moving.
