Description

“Forest Spirit” is a deer's head emerging from mist, its antlers turning into flowering cherry branches. The image is symbolic rather than strictly animal.

What the picture shows

The coat is worked in a cool range — emerald, turquoise, blue and grey-blue with gold veins running down the neck. The antlers share that green and branch upward until they quietly become thin brown twigs carrying soft pink and white cherry blossom. Lower down, the neck is set into a geometric shape: a gold-ochre diamond with a dark burgundy centre that works as a kind of pedestal. The pale grey misty background stays as print on the canvas. The deer, the antlers, the blossom and the geometric base are beaded, and the microbeads add shine on the petals and the gold lines. The deer's eye is dark and calm with a white highlight, and the inside of the ear is lighter — small touches that keep the image from turning purely ornamental.
