Description

“Nature Totem” is a large green beetle at the centre of a symmetrical composition framed by scrolling foliage. The piece is decorative and carries the feel of an old sign or amulet.

What the picture shows

The beetle's body is worked in emerald and grass green with golden highlights along the wing cases; the horns on its head are pale, almost silver, and the open lower wings are turquoise-blue with a dark rim. Behind it sits a slim gold crescent moon filled with dense filigree ornament. The background is grey, and turquoise scrolls curl along the edges into an oval frame. Small gold stars and sparks are scattered across the field, and some of them are made with the decorative bicone glass, which glitters noticeably next to the matte beads. The microbeads carry the finest lines of the ornament. The wing cases are laid in even vertical rows of beads, so the ribs show clearly, while the lower wings are worked on the diagonal instead.
