Description

“Ocean Traveler” is a sea turtle gliding through clear turquoise water above the corals. The piece is small and square, with a light, almost childlike mood.

What the picture shows

The shell is a mosaic of coloured segments — green, turquoise, yellow, pink and blue patches that come together into one pattern outlined in dark beads. The head and flippers are pale green with pink and blue flecks. A small yellow fish swims in the lower left, green seaweed rises on both sides, and a bush of coral in pink, orange and red stands to the right. The water stays as print: turquoise, with faint pale bubbles. The turtle, the fish, the weed and the corals are beaded, and the microbeads are scattered through the bubbles and the small highlights in the water. The turtle is turned towards the viewer so that its eye and the smiling line of its mouth are visible, while the lower flipper passes behind the coral and gives the composition depth.
