Description

“Dew's Kiss” is a single large flower shown very close up, so close that the petals run off the edges of the canvas. Drops of dew are scattered over them, and they are what gave the piece its name.

What the picture shows

The petals move from deep crimson and cherry at the base to soft pink and near white at the tips, with fine veins fanning out along them. The centre is packed with golden yellow stamens, and at the very middle sits a green ovary, the only cool note in a warm composition. The background is dark, almost black with a cherry undertone, so the flower glows against it. The dew drops are made with the decorative bicone glass: they genuinely catch the light and look wet, while the microbeads strengthen the shine along the petal edges. Towards the edges of the frame the petals fall into shadow and almost merge with the background, so the centre of the flower looks separately lit.
