Description

“Escaping from routine” shows a night city from a motorcyclist's point of view: handlebars in frame, hands in red gloves, and a wet road running ahead between the skyscrapers.

What the picture shows

The composition is built on lights: blue and turquoise verticals of the buildings, yellow and red signs on the right, white and orange headlights of the cars ahead. The rain-soaked asphalt throws all of it back in long streaks of light, beaded in rows that follow the direction of travel. The handlebars and the tank of the motorcycle are stitched in dark blue and emerald. The painted background, with its blurred pedestrians and distant shopfronts, stays as print on the canvas, while the beads go onto the light sources, their reflections and the foreground.
